Dear Ms. Proulx,
I was sorry to hear of your rant in the British press about losing the Oscar to Crash. I saw most of the nominated films, including Brokeback Mountain, which I wanted to win Best Picture, and Crash which was also a high quality film. In fact I was thrilled to see so many excellent films this year, not so in many years. I too gasped when Crash got the nod, however I felt Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, plus score did show that the Academy recognized the quality of the film. To denigrate the academy members for their choice is not a classy move, they are entitled to their opinion and get to vote on what they want. It's always better to take the high road, don't tarnish the reputation of a beautiful film, as well as your own reputation, by whining about your loss, for that is what people will remember.
Yours truly,
Dana
